Neil Peart is a musician from Canada and is the drummer and lyricist for a rock band called Rush. He gained a good following in the US after the penning of ‘2112’ album in 1976. He has consistently been ranked as a great rock drummer.
In his concerts Peart uses a very elaborate 360 degree drum kit which has large acoustic set in front and also has electronic drums in the rear. This is his signature drum setup which includes a hybrid of DW drums, Sabian cymbals and Roland V-drums. It is a unique kind of drum set which is sold at a very high price.
The DW Pearl R30 Drum Kit – cost
The DW Neil Peart R30 Drum Kit is available for purchase from many manufacturers for around $22000.
It is usually an exact replica of his 30th anniversary kit which he played during Rush’s 30th anniversary tour.
This is a dream kit which recreates the R30 drum kit. It delivers superb sound and has been copied in perfect detail down to the minutest ones. The drum is made of maple wood with curly maple.
The finish is a lacquer process with hologram appliqués which show many of RUSH’s recordings. The entire kit is plated in 24 carat gold. The R30 kit usually includes cymbals with 30 pairs of Drum Sticks and a certificate of authenticity. Only limited numbers are produced.
The set up of the drum kit
The kit is arranged in the shape of a crescent and the points are all at touching distance. The bass drum, snare, floor toms and one up and two down toms are in the center.
The centre has the kick drum, one snare drum of 14”, the 13” tom, the deep 15” floor tom and the 16” floor tom. The three other toms are placed above the hi-hat.
The 8” and 10 toms are mounted at the same angle whereas the 12” tom is mounted a little lower.
The shorter 15” floor tom is lower on the left side. The 18” floor tom is mounted on a stand behind the player.
The 14” snares can be placed according to choice between two different instruments. The cymbals can be arranged around the kit.
The ride is on the right of the bass drum and both the chinas are on the extreme right.
The two hi hats are quite easily accessible and the crashes and splashes are to the left. They are mounted at quite a height. This kit has been given a steampunk makeover for Rush’s Time Machine tour in 2010. The set up includes customized Sabian cymbals, copper pipe DW hardware and DW shells.
